Kanoni is one of the most famous and picturesque Corfu sights. It lays 3 km on average from the center of Corfu town and is located next to the airport. As legend has it, it was named by a French cannon battery-type that is left there by 1789. High up on a hill, there is the canon and from there you can see the Pontikonisi and the little church of Panagia Vlaherna, linked with the mainland with a narrow pathway. The Monastery of Vlacherna is located below the Kanoni. The view from Kanoni to the Pontikonissi islet with is picturesque chapel of Pantocrator built in the 1200s and one of the oldest Byzantine monuments on the island, is unique.
